Finnley's Neutral + Scandi Nursery

Welcome to Finnley's Crib!

This crib is the real show-stopper in her neutral + scandi nursery. Designed and built by my incredibly talented and handsome husband, aka her dada. Mitch spent endless hours over the course of 8 months, yes...if you're doing the math -- it took him almost as long as it took me to grow our precious little gal. And it was well worth it!

A few months after finding out we were pregnant I decided to make an inspiration board of nursery decor, furniture, and paint colors. It was filled with an array of monochrome colors,  as well as mid-century,  and Scandinavian style pieces; Keeping everything neutral of course since we weren't finding out the gender.

Once Mitch started taking a look at the cribs I liked, he realized he hated all of the exposed hardware. So, he decided to build the crib himself! If I'm being completely honest, I thought he was crazy and didn't take him seriously at first. As soon as he purchased the maple and hauled it home, I knew he was serious.

Hours upon hours were spent cutting, chiseling, sanding, assembling by mortise and tenon joints, and sealing with a natural oil. In short, this crib had a ton of love,  sweat, and blood poured into it.

Oh,  have I mentioned that the crib was finished and put into the nursery the NIGHT BEFORE I went into labor?! Talk about cutting it close! WHEW!

I'll love you forever
I'll like you for always
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be
_

These words hold a special place in my heart, and I knew from the very beginning that they belonged in our nursery. For as long as I can remember, my Mom signed my birthday cards and encouraging notes with 'love you forever, like you for always - Mom'. An even sweeter addition to the nursery is this signed copy of Love you Forever that my mom gifted me after college. Sadly, my mom took her final breaths when I was only 17 weeks pregnant. It breaks my heart that she can't be with us today - but these words are a reminder of her love and an encouragement for me as I navigate mamahood with my own baby girl to love forever and always.

That inspiration board I mentioned earlier had a fun wall design similar to the one we did!
Last minute I decided my monochrome nursery needed a pop of color,  so after three stops into Sherwin-Willaims I landed on on the perfect blue/green! I was too far along to paint the nursery myself, so instead I taped the lines and labeled each section while my amazing mother-in-love painted her heart out and brought my fun idea to life!

Everyone always asks me if it was hard to plan and design a nursery without knowing what gender our baby was, and honestly for me it wasn't hard at all! I love all things neutral! However, after bringing our beautiful girl home -I find myself adding more and more mauve to her nursery!

  •     1/4 cup melted Butter
Filling:
  •     3 8oz packages of Cream Cheese, softened
  •     3/4 cup Sugar
  •     1 15 oz can Pumpkin
  •     2 tbsp Flour
  •     3/4 tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice
  •     3/4 tsp Vanilla extract

  •     1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
  •     1/4 tsp Vanilla

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees
  2. In a small bowl, combine crackers and sugar, then stir in melted butter. Press into the bottom of a 9x13 pan, coated with cooking spray. Cover and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.

  4. Pour over crust. Bake for 35 - 45 minutes, or until center is almost set. (doesn't wiggle to much when you shake it) Cool on wire rack for 1 hour. Refrigerate for 3 hours or until chilled. (the longer it's chilled, the better)
  5. While the cheesecake is baking - prep your topping. Pour whipping cream into a small bowl, and beat cream until it begins to thicken. Add powdered sugar and vanilla, then continue beating until stiff peaks form. Spread over chilled cheesecake right before serving.

OPTIONAL
Sprinkle Pumpkin Pie Spice or cinnamon lightly over the top before serving.
Or top with sugared pecans:
1/2 cup sugar, 1 cup pecan halves
In a large, non-stick skillet, add sugar. Without stirring, heat over medium-low heat until sugar is melted. Stir in pecans, stirring until coated. Cool on parchment paper and break into pieces once cooled.

One Year Later - Missing You Mom!

It seems like just yesterday, but it’s already been a year since I was sitting on the edge of the bed, holding my moms hand as she took her last breaths and went home to her Savior.

Just a few days before her passing, I’ll never forget using the doppler to let her hear baby meiss’ heartbeat and putting her hand on my belly as she was talking to baby. In those moments she said ‘Hi Baby, Grandma’s tired, but I love you with all my heart and soul!’

As much as I miss her and wish she was still here everyday to enjoy and love on Finnley Ann, I instead get to tell Finn how loved she is by her sweet grandma in heaven and how beautiful it will be when they meet one day.

Becoming a mama without my mom, has been a weird thing to navigate. It’s like I really didn’t even begin to grieve until Finnley was born. Thankfully, I’m able to find comfort and peace in the ways God continues to bless me with ‘God Nods’ that affirm me I’m on His radar and not forgotten. I also love that God can minister to me by simply revealing the beauty of my moms legacy.

She is forever in our hearts and never forgotten!
